Max Your PACS

Purchasing a replacement PACS? First find out what impact market conditions have had on PACS before buying the next generation. Plus, optimize your current PACS with a few infrastructure tweaks. Discover how centralized storage, virtualization and enterprise-wide policy are key to ‘maxing’ your PACS.
If you go with a Web-based PACS, first weigh the advantages of using a slim- versus a thin-client solution. Are you forced to sacrifice robust functionality due to low bandwidth? Or do you have to choose?

SIIM 2008 Takes a Hands-On Approach

SIIM 2008 allowed attendees to enhance their IT skills in an interactive learning environment. Some of these workshops included a live demo by Katherine Andriole, Ph.D., Paul Chang, M.D., and Luciano Prevedello, M.D., who illustrated the complexities of streamlining advanced processing and visualization today. The presenters emphasized a need for implementing a post-processing workflow, aka 'the Magic Box,' in the future.

Open source communities embraced the open source ‘plug-fest’ where participants trained on how to build upon DICOM and HL7-compliant open source projects currently used in imaging IT. In another hands-on event, attendees in Learning Labs worked with DVTK tools, Nagios, Wikis and an eXtensible Imaging Platform (XIP).

The ITN staff looks forward to getting our hands dirty next year at SIIM 2009, where we will meet in Charlotte, NC.
