SIIM Embraces Broader Imaging Field
 In the spirit of SIIM embracing the broader imaging field beyond radiology, one of the most anticipated discussions at the conference featured “Pathology Informatics: Introduction and the Approaching Convergence with Radiology Informatics,” a joint session that explored synergies between the radiology and pathology informatics communities.
The moderator Daniel L. Rubin, M.D., M.S., Stanford University Medical Center, and speakers Claudia Mello-Thoms, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh and John R. Gilbertson, M.D., Harvard Medical School, explored the common ground between pathology and radiology informatics, creating awareness of the future convergences between pathology and radiology informatics that may ultimately lead to integrated diagnostic centers. Topics included how the confluence of radiology and pathology informatics will affect practitioners; what does a pathologist do, what systems do they use, and what is their workflow; as well as analyzing integrated radiology and pathology workflows.
